In a continued effort to get students to put their phones away during class, we are encouraging students to take a look at the Pocket Points app which rewards students for keeping their phone locked (at least during class time). I encourage you to take a look at the app and the rewards they can redeem.
If you were wondering what we are watching in class this week, we are incorporating our lessons on the reproductive system and human sexuality with the PBS/NOVA movie, Life's Greatest Miracle.
This past Friday (2/17/2017) I decided to take advantage of our long weekend ahead and sent out this email. This 'project' or extra credit assignment is due by this Monday evening (2/20/2017). Even if you do not aim for the extra credit points, it is still a great activity to participate in!
The most common feedback I have received in the recent months from my students is about how they wished they had more time to spend with all of you--their parents and family. That they know you work hard, that time is scarce, and they don't always show that they miss it, but... they do.
Our lives are so busy and stressful, that especially as parents we often don't realize how fast time goes by until it's gone. So I challenge you this weekend to take a couple hours if you can find it to spend with your child. Head to the beach, go fishing, catch a movie, or get a pedicure. Whatever it is, know it matters and makes a difference!
If you send me an email back, and your child does as well, to let me know what activity you spent together, I will issue 20 extra credit points to their project grade for this quarter. I hope you get a chance to get out and enjoy the long weekend!
